Promote peaceful and inclusive societies, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable institutions. For builders: tools that make legal help reachable, public processes legible and institutions answerable.
Justice systems fail people mostly through opacity and delay: not knowing your rights, not affording advice, not understanding the notice you received, waiting years for a hearing. None of these require new laws to fix — they require information, translation and process tools that ordinary people can actually use.
Indian courts carry tens of millions of pending cases, and legal-aid entitlements reach a fraction of those eligible. At the same time, India has unusually strong transparency infrastructure on paper — RTI, open judgments (eCourts), published budgets — creating one of the world’s richest environments for justice-tech that works with public data.
Tamil Nadu combines high institutional capacity with high service demand: busy district courts, active legal-services authorities, functioning e-sevai citizen centres. Tamil-first legal information, victim-support navigation and grievance-outcome transparency are all concrete, buildable gaps in Chennai, Coimbatore and beyond.
